"In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort".
This month the theme for Quilt Block Mania is all about books. I had only one thought, one passionate desire to create when I saw the theme- J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit.
It was one of my all time favorite books as a child, as well as my most loved and remembered animated movies brought to life by Rankin & Bass (yes, the studio that brought you frosty and Rudolf also brought you the Hobbit & the last unicorn). It was magical, endearing, and breath taking. I still can't think of the Hobbit without singing "that's what Bilbo Baggins hates" in my head.
I hope that when you create this block, that you get to go on your own adventure. Find your own precious, journey through Mirkwood, ride barrels down the river to lake town, and deep into the Lonely Mountain. Go there and back again.
