Mother's Day is just around the corner, and if you're searching for a heartfelt and creative gift idea to show your love and appreciation, look no further than the world of quilting. Quilts are not only functional but also carry a deep sentimental value. If you find yourself short on time, fret not! We've compiled a list of last-minute quilty ideas that will make your mom feel cherished and celebrated on her special day.

Memory Quilts:

A memory quilt is a beautiful way to preserve and celebrate precious memories. Collect old photographs, fabric scraps from meaningful events or clothing items that hold sentimental value. Cut these materials into square or rectangular shapes of equal size. You can choose to arrange them in a random pattern or create a more organized layout.

T-shirt Quilts

T-shirt Quilts are terrific examples of a memory quilt! T-shirt's logos and featured images come in all sorts of shapes and sizes and can lead to fun organic layouts.

No T-shirt quilt is the same so you'll be sure to give Mom a one of a kind gift. Personally, I've taken my kiddos tiny t-shirts and my toddlers cute onesies and been preparing to make a "Grandma's loved" T-shirt quilt. These heartfelt gift ideas will not only keep cherished memories alive but also provide comfort and warmth.

Customized Pillow Covers:

For a personalized touch, create customized pillow covers using your mom's favorite fabrics and colors. Measure the dimensions of her throw pillows and cut two pieces of fabric slightly larger than those measurements. Place the right sides of the fabric together and sew around three sides, leaving one side open. Turn the cover right side out and press it flat. Optionally, you can add appliqué initials, a heart-shaped patch, or embroidery to personalize the design. Slip the cover over the pillow and hand-stitch the opening closed. Your mom will love seeing her favorite fabrics transformed into beautiful pillow covers.

Not enough time to make two pillow covers? Aim for one cover that can go over a square couch pillow. Appliqueing your Moms favorite animal or flowers onto the front cover is sure to bring a smile to her face. This pillow Ocean Oasis is one of my favs from All People Quilt's catalog of pillows.

Quilted Table Runner:

Quilted table runner is an excellent gift for moms who love to decorate their dining or coffee tables. Choose fabric that complements her home décor and cut it to the desired length and width for the table runner. Maybe you have some orphaned blocks hanging around the studio? Add sashing around three blocks to give a simple yet bold look. Your mom will appreciate the personal touch you added to her table décor. And if you're anything like my Mom...next time you visit your table runner will have been turned into wall art.

Tea Cozy:

To keep your mom's tea warm and stylish, create a quilted tea cozy. Measure the dimensions of her teapot and cut two fabric pieces to those measurements, ensuring you leave enough seam allowance. Cut a piece of heat-resistant fabric or insulating batting to fit the inside of the cozy. Layer the fabric, batting, and lining fabric together, aligning the edges. Sew around the edges, leaving an opening to turn the cozy right side out. Trim the excess fabric, turn it right side out, and press it flat. Sew the opening closed, and add decorative stitching or appliqué to enhance the cozy's appearance. Your mom will enjoy cozying up with a warm cup of tea, knowing her teapot is well protected.

Quilted Tote Bag:

If your mom is always on the go, (and you have a bit of time) a quilted tote bag is a practical and stylish gift. Select a sturdy fabric for the bag exterior and a soft fabric for the lining. Cut two large rectangles for the bag's front and back, two long strips for the sides, and two smaller rectangles for the handles. Sew the front and back panels to the side strips, right sides together, and press the seams open. Attach the handles to the top edges of the bag, aligning them with the side seams. Sew the lining pieces together in the same manner. Place the lining inside the bag, right sides together, and sew around the top edge, leaving a small opening to turn the bag right side out. Once turned, stitch the opening closed, and press the top edge. Optionally, you can add pockets inside or outside

Want to add a bit more pizazz? Use simple piecing to create the front panel before you begin constructing the tote. My favorite piecing to use on bags? English Paper Piecing of course! It's more time consuming, but it creates a one of a kind feel to any tote or bag.
